Daily Duties at Johns Hopkins School Of Medicine:
I scientifically and financially managed a small research lab within the dermatology department. Our group was involved in two major research projects: (1) Role of midkine network in pathogenesis of NF1 and (2) biochemistry and molecular biology of p63 signaling in pathogenesis of ectodermal dysplasia. My particularly strong background in molecular biology and proteomics allowed me to apply these methods to analyze complex inherited disorders and identify specific molecular interactions associated with mutated proteins. In the past four years, our group published about 8 papers in peer review journals such as JBC, Nature Medicine, Cell Cycle, Cancer Cell and Cancer Research with high citation indexes. I was awarded two research grants. Moreover, we discovered the molecular mechanism for Hay Wells syndrome, a complex genetic disorder associated with aberrant splicing of the FGFR2 receptor, consequently linking p63 transcription, signaling and mRNA processing. During my tenure at the dermatology department, I learned many new techniques including: allele-specific "knock in" of p63 mutations in ES mouse cells, screening and propagation of ES cells, maintaining Chimera mice and establishing mice colonies, expression of heterological proteins (splicing and transcription factors) in adenoviral vectors, targeted "knockout" of receptor genes by shRNAi expressed
What they like about Johns Hopkins School Of Medicine:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
