Daily Duties at Abington Police Department:
*Receive and dispatch both 9-1-1 and 10-digit calls from the public, assist, and direct as necessary utilizing both the Abington and Montgomery County "Computer Aided Dispatch System"; accurately record information on a variety of forms and logs as dictated by policies and procedures; query CAD system for prior history or similar incidents at address and prior arrests; *Prepare reports concerning certain important events or instances; maintain jail log; arrange arraignment hearings, paperwork and prisoner transportation *Responds to requests from other law enforcement agencies; retrieves information requested by department personnel *Monitor numerous other police department frequencies as well as burglar alarms control panel and fire, weather and public works frequencies; answers, records and distributes weather alerts *CLEAN/NCIC and Warrant Entries; background criminal history checks; checking and verifying driver and vehicle information *Act as Lead Dispatcher in the communications center; train new and part-time Public Safety Communicators within the communications center *9-1-1 for kids teacher, go into classes throughout the township and teach children about 9-1-1 *General administrative and clerical duties related to law enforcement; maintain various books and records in the Communications Center, write letters, memos, etc. *Assist in setting up the new CAD system (CODY) for the communications center *Prepare policies and procedures for the sections assigned, and at times write appropriate policies and procedures, for CALEA Accreditation procedures
