Daily Duties at Wil Research Laboratories:
Biologist in Developmental and Reproductive Toxicology (DART). Responsible for the performance of in-life phases of assigned reproduction and teratology studies in accordance with WIL Standard Operating Procedures and Good Laboratory Practices with a low level of supervision. Basic skills would include receiving animals (rats/mice/rabbits), identification of rodents/rabbits via ear tag or tattoo (tails-newborn/adults), animal care responsibilities during quarantine and study periods, weighing and observing animals (quarantine, stock male colony, gestating, lactating). Other skills include feeding and watering of animals, changing out litter boxes and Bed-O-Cob's bedding, animal restraint/assisting for restraint for bloods or dosing techniques, euthanasia of rodents (CO2 inhalation), collection of rodent vaginal smears to determine pregnancy or stage of estrous, behavioral testing (biel maze), animal placement for randomizations. Computer skills include the operation of basic WTDMS programs for data collection, table generation and editing. Function as the lead technician for routine studies. Responsible for the maintenance and thorough review of study records, answering study record audits and in the training of ad hoc functions when assigned. Additional responsibilities would include other tasks as assigned by a supervisor and/or the department management. A list of additional skills and complete skill training are available upon request.
