Hendry Point Company began as an outgrowth of Passap America, where former customers and buyers of knitting machines became vendors to the company, selling it knitted, limited edition garments. Doing business as “The Artful Diva” in Bonita Springs and later on Third Street South in Old Naples, this up-scale, retail woman’s apparel concept worked between vendor / artists and customers to bring richness to the shopping experience. The business utilized sophisticated analytical tools, such as Microsoft’s Retail Management System (RMS) and Microsoft Excel to tightly control Purchasing, Inventory and provide sales analyses. Upscale retail shopping in the old parts of Naples have always been a combined luncheon / shopping experience. With the development of many new restaurants in easier-to-get-to locations, such as Coconut Point and Gulf Coast Town Center, the lunch aspect of the equation has been severely diluted, and the quantity of shoppers no longer justifies the rent. The business continues on-line, though the retail store has now been closed.
