Daily Duties at Carnival Cruise Lines:
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES Imparted training and promoted awareness of environmental, health and safety issues. Upgraded the documents and procedures with relevant changes of the companys EMS/SMS, SOPEP (Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Planning), IOPP (International Oil Pollution Prevention), ISPP (International Sewage Pollution Prevention) Monitored activities related to discharge policies as per the regulations set by MARPOL ( Marine Pollution), CWA (Clean Water Act), CAA ( Clean Air Act) and cross checked the same for proper documentation. Made a report for monitoring the ISO 14001 objectives and targets and implemented it. Sampled and conducted preliminary test before every fresh water bunkering as per USPH (United States Public Health) and VSP (Vessel Sanitation Program) regulations. Supervised fuel refilling/offloading and updated the bunker station with necessary documents and procedures under the supervision of chief engineer. Proper inventory, storage and handling of chemicals. Imparted training for proper use, segregation and labeling as per the NFPA/HMIS (Hazardous Material Identification System) and companys ECP procedures. Suggested various up gradations to the current online MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) maintenance systems. Actively involved in Audits conducted onboard. Improved strategies to carry out good audits. Coordinated with the audit team activities within time constraints, mentored junior staff. HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES Fire squad team leader and fire fighter. Member of Damage Control and Hazmat Spill clean-up. Certified as Chief of life raft / life boat, life saving equipments. Trained the departmental persons on evacuation procedures, routes and responsibilities in case of emergency and drills. Emphasized the necessity and conducted trainings for proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Updated the PPE station with adequate equipments depending on the hazard assessment of the area and ordering of new stocks. Set up De-contamination station and shower stations. Installed quick eye wash stations. Segregation and proper storage of chemicals based on compatibility and hazard severity including proper labeling. Involved in implementation, preparation and risk analysis of work permits system (Hot work, Confined Space, Lockout/Tag out, Underwater divers, Working aloft and/on overboard) Inspection and up gradation of safety equipments in mechanical workshops. Updating Lockout/Tag out stations, Calibration records, SOPEP manual and prepared new Excel log for updating the bilge water transfer log, counters log and others. Organized calibration, recertification and testing of various fixed and moving lifting systems, fire fighting equipments, gas detectors, deep fat fryer thermostats, back flow preventer etc Checked for various planned and unplanned maintenances.
