PROFILe James Chesson is an engineering and technical writer, as well as a field engineer with 20 years of experience on major mass transit projects for Port Authority and MTA in the greater New York metropolitan area, including Positive Train Control, (PTC), the East Side Access Project, the Air Train to JFK airport, and the high-speed rail construction necessary for Amtrak's Acela service. He is expert at structural steel construction, lagging and formwork, concrete placement (ACI certified), rebar work, slurry and secant piles, micro tunneling, electrical duct banks, catenary structures, etc. At the East Side Access, Mr. Chesson was involved daily in quality control field inspection in Sunnyside, which included assuring the contractor's adherence to all specifications, codes and standards, RFI's, etc. He is also a qualified OSHA safety inspector. Mr. Chesson, with a background in journalism, has written publications for various engineering firms, and, most recently, been a technical writer for the MTA's high profile Positive Train Control project.
