Silicon Valley Bank is a bank that deals in high worth loans where it earns high margins. The goal of this project was aimed at booking the fees throughout the life of the loan instead of recognizing the fee amounts at the time of fee assessment. This is mandatory as per FAS91 requirements. SVB deals with 2 categories of loans - facilities and term loans. Each of these has their own logic in how the fees are to be amortized. Also, amortization changes based on the attributes and events on the loans. The complexity of the system was increased by the fact that SVB has 7 different mainframe-based solutions for processing loans of various types. The newly built system had to integrate with a data warehouse that consolidated output from these 7 systems and would amortize the fees.
